Making a positive difference in a child's life is what our mentoring program is all about. The appeal of mentoring is that it brings individuals together on a one-to-one basis and provides an opportunity for an adult to share his or her experience, skill, and knowledge with a young person. Mentoring of students is sweeping the country in a very quiet way. Unlike earlier movements, this one is not about marching in the streets or passing legislation in Washington. It is about something both simpler and more complex--two people of different ages and backgrounds, talking together and learning from each other.

Currently, 74 students benefit from the loving care of 68 mentors. During the 2001-2002 school year, the Mentoring Program at Ingram Elementary was fortunate enough to host 91 different mentors who served 112 of our students a total of 2,348 documented hours. In addition to their scheduled time each week, several mentors were judges at our Science Fair, helped out at our Field Day, and also read to families during our Milk and Cookies Night. We attribute the success of our mentoring program to the support of everyone involved in raising the children of our community--parents, teachers, mentors, pastors, school administrators, and our school board--and we are grateful for each one of you!
